Basics

Is Photobooth free?

Yes. Solo, Duo and Group are all free.

Do I need an account?

No. There's nothing to sign up for or install — open the page and start shooting.

How many people can shoot together?

Solo is just you, Duo is two people, and Group fits up to 8 friends, each in their own place.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. Photobooth is built for phones first: iPhone/iPad on iOS 16.4 or later, and Android with an up-to-date Chrome. On a computer, it uses your webcam.

Camera

Camera won't turn on (iPhone/iPad)

Photobooth needs camera access to take photos. Turn it back on:

  1. Tap the aA (or ⋯) icon in the address bar.
  2. Choose Website Settings.
  3. Set Camera to Allow.
  4. Come back and tap Try again.

Can't find it? Go to Settings → Apps → Safari → Camera (iOS 16–17: Settings → Safari → Camera).

Camera won't turn on (Android)

Photobooth needs camera access to take photos. Turn it back on:

  1. Tap the icon to the left of the web address.
  2. Choose Permissions (or Site settings).
  3. Turn on Camera.
  4. Tap Try again.

Still blocked? Phone Settings → Apps → Chrome → Permissions → Camera → Allow only while using the app.

Camera won't turn on (computer)

Photobooth needs camera access to take photos. Turn it back on:

  1. Click the icon to the left of the address bar.
  2. Set Camera to Allow.
  3. Reload the page.

macOS: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → allow your browser. Windows: Settings → Privacy & security → Camera.

Links opened in Zalo/Messenger don't work

You're inside an app's built-in browser, which usually can't use the camera.

  1. Tap the app's menu button (⋯ or ⋮), usually at the top.
  2. iPhone/iPad: Choose "Open in Safari" or "Open in browser".
Android: Choose "Open in Chrome" or "Open in browser".
  3. Or copy the link and paste it into Safari or Chrome.

Photos & privacy

Are my photos stored anywhere?

Solo: photos never leave your device and aren't stored on our servers.

Duo/Group: video and photos pass through a third-party realtime server abroad to reach your friends — nothing is recorded or stored.

How do I save to my iPhone?

On the result screen, tap Save photo, then choose Save Image in the share sheet. No share sheet? Press and hold the photo and choose Save to Photos.

Why is my friend's photo blurry?

In Duo and Group, each person's photo travels over the network to the whole room. If your friend's connection is weak, the full photo may not arrive in time and a video frame is used instead, which is less sharp. Try again on a steadier connection.

Why is text in my photo reversed?

Photos are mirrored, exactly like the preview you saw while shooting, so text on clothes or signs comes out reversed.

Other

Can children use it?

Anyone under 16 needs a parent's or guardian's permission before turning on the camera.
